Cuenta una leyenda yoruba que la muerte (iku), cada cinco dias descendia a la tierra matando decenas de personas en su plena juventud. Existia entonces un caos, nadie sabia ni incluso suponia cuando seria su dia señalado para morir.
Cuando aquello ese dia fue nombrado “el dia del terror”.
Orunmila consulto con su grupo de discipulos para ver como frenar esta situacion pues ya se habia hecho mania de iku ,venir y llevarse grandes cantidades de personas cada cinco dias.Se acordo agazajar a ifa con dos nueces de kola y dos orogbo(kola amargo),agua y una botella de bebida bien temprano en la manana señalada en que iku vendria por su racion humana. Tambien antes de ello, debian ofrecer alimentos de todo tipo a eshu odara. Se le advirtio a orunmila, no salir tampoco ese dia. Ese dia orunmila estaria adentro de su casa y cuando la muerte bajara se encontraria con eshu afuera.
El dia fijado, como de costumbre, iku descendio y venia directo hacia casa de Orunmila.Alli se encontro con eshu odara y este le pregunto: que se te ofrece?.
Iku le respondio que ese dia venia a llevarse a orunmila y a algunos de sus seguidores. Eshu le respondio: Es facil, quedate aqui, reconoceras a sus discipulos por el ide, mientras llegan comparte conmigo esto que yo te ofrezco en senal de bienvenida Despues de persuadirlo, iku comenzo a comer todo lo que eshu odara le iba ofreciendo.
Inmediatamente de haber consumido de todo , iku se disculpo diciendo que tenia que continuar su camino y darle cumplimiento a la tarea que se habia propuesto para ese dia.
Eshu le pregunto: Iku, puede una persona matar a quien le ha dado de comer?
Iku respondio:, claro que no, eso es desagradecimiento y es castigado por la ley de olodumare. Eshu continuo. Entonces : que dirias si te dijese que la comida, las nueces de kola, los orogbos ,la bebida y el agua que has tomado fueron obsequiadas para ti por orunmila y sus seguidores?
Iku respondio que no sabia de quien era esa comida, que pensaba que era de el.
Eshu le respondio, :no no es mia y antes de sentarte a comer hubieses preguntado. Iku entonces asinstio que ya no tenia moral para danar a orunmila y a sus seguidores, que no tenia otra opcion sino la de regresar a su reino.Cuando iku se marcho con las manos vacias, orunmila determino que se cambiaria el nombre de ese dia por el “Dia de Ifa†y que ese dia seria observado por todos los seguidores de el. Orunmila tambien quedo como :eni ye ijo iku da” o sea “quien postpone el dia de la muerte. Orunmila estaba tan alegre que comenzo a alabar a aquellos que habian lanzado ifa para todos ese dia:
El hambre no se asentara nunca en la mente de uno. Pues para otras cosas debera tener espacio para deliberar fue lo profetizado por Ifa para orunmila cuando huia de la muerte. Este es el origen de la errada costumbre en la diaspora de atender a elegba el primer dia de la semana, o sea el lunes. Esto se estuvo haciendo asi durante muchisimo tiempo por desconocimiento de la existencia del mismo o por no contar con estos datos.La semana yoruba a diferencia de la semana cristiana(7 dias), solo tiene cinco dias.
Si se analiza la historia que ha sido relatada, nos damos cuenta que cada cinco dias iku desciende y se debe agazajar a eshu odara hacer ofrecimientos a orunmila y tomar ese dia de recogimiento en nuestros templos y casas y que hacerlo el lunes de cada semana seria un error significativo.
El calendario yoruba incluye los dias en que deben ser adoradas las diferentes deidades. Aquellas que no aparezcan incluidas en el siguiente calendario pueden ser adoradas sin distincion de dias. No obstante,las secuencias de la adoracion a las deidades principales son por espacios de cinco dias, contando siempre como primero y final ese mismo dia. Ifa especificamente tiene tres fases o periodos de adoracion y sus nombres son:
Orun ifa ……………espacios de cinco dias.
Isan Ifa………………espacios de nueve dias.
Itadogun ifa………. espacios de diesiseis dias.
Orun ifa es la ceremonia habitual de dar obi a orunmila y a eshu y ofrecerle por supuesto lo de rigor habitual que equivocadamente se hace los lunes de cada
semana. El awo de ser posible no saldra este dia. Isan ifa e itadogun, ya contemplan quizas ceremonias mas elaboradas y de mas recogimiento y dedicacion espiritual a Ifa.
Orunmila, eshu y oshun siempre estaran los tres incluidos en un mismo grupo Y seran adorados en las mismas tres fases ,siempre los isan ifa y los itadogun ifa seran tambien orun ifa. Despues del “Orun Ifa” donde se deben realizar los ritos que cotidianamente haciamos los lunes para elegba y el habitual registro con orunmila, se haran libaciones tambien ese dia para oshun.
Nota(recuerde que donde dice osu es en realidad oshun, pues no aparece el punto debajo que identifica la letra sh, pues en la mayoria de los casos los servidores de las web no sostienen este sistema de escrituras).
Despues del Orun ifa, viene el dia llamado “OSE OGUN”(se le realizan ritos a ogun y oshosi), despues del ose ogun viene el “JAKUTA” donde se le hacen a shango, a oya y a los ibejis.Posterior a “Jakuta” viene el “OSE OBATALA”, realizandose dichos ritos a obatala, iyami,obaluaiye y a egungun.Los ceremoniales a olokun y yemaya se realizan indistintamente siguiendo un orden de nueve dias segun el calendario yoruba.
